I love you more than I did when you were mine

Hello hello there my lovely readers!

So this post is long over due and yet sort of premature. This is about spring fashion, I just need something to help me deal with this bitterly cold weather. So these looks may not all be accessible just yet but in the next few months I hope to see some fabulous ladies rocking them. I have divided them into classic and modern, although some even allude me a little as to where they should fall. Some are also old favorite with modern spins. As you may have guessed, I love vintage fashion, so I love a classic style.

Here are my predictions for the future! (...meaning this is what I will be wearing in the near future ha)

CLASSIC:
  • Beret:
To be honest this look took me a while to come around to, but now that I have I can't get enough. I bought a leopard print beret from H&M and just love it. This look is really great for fall and spring, because it gives a little warmth and is stylish, whereas in winter it doesn't provide nearly enough warmth (I learned this the hard way, the beret was my undoing and led to a two week flu).If you aren't fully convinced about the beret here's a rare photo of Marilyn Monroe in a leopard print one herself. She wore some in her films, the ones that come to mind are Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire. This is where my inspiration came from and I bought the leopard print one featured above and then I saw this photo and it made me love it even more.

  • Flower Pin:
There's nothing really new about pining a flower pin or brooch to one's coat, however, thanks to Sex and the City's brilliant designer Pat Field, the flower has been blown up larger than life and usually in vibrant colors. This champagne colored one would be great with a bold printed dress. Also sometimes these pins double as hair pins, so if you're feeling adventurous this would look great for a night on the town.

  • Scarf:
I wasn't sure if this would better be labeled a neckerchief. Either way, this is a hard look to pull off. It seems simple, but you could either look very chic or very much like a flight attendant. I think a brightly patterned scarf with little black dress could look great. I was personally thinking one of those turtleneck tank top style tops (in black) tucked into a high-waisted, black pencil skirt with some red lipstick and heels. I think this is great for spring because you have the scarf accessory that always looks good without having a heavy, wool scarf. It's simple and elegant.

  • Locket:
I may have mentioned how much I love lockets before, I got one from my parents for xmas (thanks mom and dad!). I especially love them with long chains, they're classy and classic. You really can't go wrong with a locket. I don't have too many dos and don'ts for a locket, except don't mix silver and gold.

Now here's a combination of two of my many great loves a locket and a pocket watch. A wonderfully stylish friend of mine was wearing one of these today and I knew I had to include it.

  • Trench Coat:
This is my favorite for spring. This look is coming back and fast. This is such a classic look, think Jackie O (who I have included a picture of below). This is one of those items EVERY girl should have in her closet. This look NEVER goes out of style, despite not always being trendy (this is distinction many women need to learn how to make). There are a variety of colors to choose from, however I stuck with the classic beige (or khaki). Also, if you find a good quality one it will fit you like a glove and last forever.

Jackie looking fabulous as she often did.

  • White evening gloves:
So these seem like they'd be more a winter item, however I think black for winter and white for a warmer season. These are elegant for a night out or even just for fun. This pair is particularly fancy, but you can find some that are a little less fancy. I found a cute pair in a vintage shop the other day and I'm kicking myself for not buying them, and I would make a trip back but I have spent my share in the past few days.

MODERN:
  • Hot Pink Lipstick:
There are many shades you can wear in the spring and summer that are colorful and gorgeous, however I love this hot pink color called Impassioned by MAC. I bought it last summer and only wore it a few times, but every time I have I always question why I don't wear it more often. I think I'm normally stumped as to what to wear with it. I think now though that a fun little party dress in a sea foam green with some big, playful pearls would be great. Any ideas would be appreciated too!!
  • Hair Dye:
I think for this coming season fun and quirky hair is a must. I'd love to see more girls having fun with hair dye, some fuchsias and light blues (turquoise mainly) would be great. I've had both colors as streaks in my hair and they're great and can look really nice if you know what you want.

  • Pop art floral prints:
I'm thinking rather than wear the same, tired floral patterns for dresses put a pop art spin on it. I'm tired of seeing pastel flowers, I'd like to see some really eye catching colors. This is a Warhol piece and I think it would be a wonderful inspiration for a dress pattern.

  • Over the knee socks:
I'm pretty sure I've talked about these before for winter, and I may have even used this picture, however I think they're great for spring and even fall. They can be worn over sheer tights, or as I will be doing with my new ones (they were part of the shopping spree!) over leopard print tights. I like dark grays, black and navy for them. They look great in ankle boots (as seen below) or in higher boots. This look is easy and I really think pretty much anyone could pull this off and look fashionable. Give it a try, ladies!

I do want to start doing weekly Fashion Dos and Don'ts. I have been really sick (I think in part thanks to the ill timing of my beret wearing) so I have just been trying to catch up on school and on life. There will be more posts coming your way in the future!
