As Of Late...

This is a list of all the things I have been enjoying lately. With the warmer weather keeping us hot and lazy during the days, I have had time to take note of a few fashion trends I'm eager to get behind and a few I may just love all on my own. This isn't just about fashion, but everything I have been taking in and that makes summer feel just that much closer. Enjoy!
  • Beautiful nails
I have been coveting this bright blue nail polish I've seen a girl in my class wearing. I have looked in a few Shoppers for it, but no luck just yet. I'm on the hunt!My friend just started wearing this adorable lavender nail polish that will be perfect for the summer.

  • Lipstick
I absolutely love my MAC blood red lipstick (however, it really isn't blood red it's a dark pink and it's gorgeous!) This was a limited edition with them, but if you can still get your hands on one do it! It's such a great color.

  • Gold Eyeshadow
I love gold for anything, but for eyeshadow I can't get enough. I have a few shades, I have to say finding a nice one is difficult, many are too yellow and some are too beige or bronzey... it takes some looking around. I think this looks really great in the summer, and especially with a sun kissed tan.

  • Market Jewelry
I was recently visiting my parents and was looking through the market in front of their house and found so many beautiful pieces of jewelry! This just proves you don't need to pay an arm and a leg to get great looking pieces. Watch out for those special pieces and keep an eye on quality. I like to stick to wooden jewelry in the market mostly.

  • Coca-cola
Well when do I not love pop? However, an ice cold coke on a hot day is really the best. I also love Stewart's Black Cherry Soda. Yummmmm.

  • Flask
I recently got my first flask, an old one of my dad's he said I could have, and am in love with it! They aren't just for winter, I say break out the flask all year round! Packing a picnic? Bring the flask! Now if I could just find a garter to strap my flask to my leg with I'd be all set...

  • Band tees
Yeah, I know... Kristen Stewart...
But the focus is on her shirt, a band tee of The Clash ! I find it hard to find band tees for girls of too many different bands (I can't count the number of Ramones and Blondie shirts I've seen and have owned, and they're awesome bands...but you only need so many of them). I recently got a sewing machine so I plan on taking in some of the guy's band tees I've acquired over the years and making them fit me a little better.

  • Tie Dye
I've been trying to plan a day to tie dye with some girlfriends, because not only is this such an easy way to update an old tee (or pretty much any article of clothing) it's so fun to get together with some friends and do. (I'll bring the flask of course!)

  • Jean Jacket
I've always loved jean jackets, and I have a jean vest that I had been searching for for what felt like forever. Jean jackets seem to be bigger this year though, at least for spring. I was recently in Banana Republic (they have a petites section) and I found a short, dark denim jacket and it fit like a glove, plus it was 60% off, so I clearly bought it! I do like the acid wash, lived in look on occasion, but I prefer to stay with the darker denim.
Kim Kardashian rocking a jean jacket.

  • Patterned Pants
These floral pair remind me of a pair I saw at H&M and was dying to buy but I didn't really have the cash and I still don't have the legs for.

This zebra pair is my favorite, I've seen a few pairs that I've been keeping an eye on for when my bank account starts to flow (or well at least trickles..) I'd love to pair either the floral or the zebra with a band tee, fur vest and an updo. It could be fabulous or fabulously trashy, I haven't decided.

  • Silver ankle boots
I'm pretty sure this infatuation started the other night when a few girlfriends and I watched Clueless and there's a scene with Brittany Murphy's character wearing silver Docs. I would settle for knock offs, though this one would be ideal.

  • Summer soundtrack
Every season needs one! Lately I've been going back to The Beach Boys and Otis Redding. The Beach Boys scream summer and feel good tunes, so I suggest cranking them up while getting ready in the mornings.

And there's diamonds and pearls in your hair

Well hello hello!

So I've gotten some guff for not posting in a while, this is due to midterms and well.... sheer laziness, I must admit. However, here is a long awaited post, sure to disappoint! I wanted to make a post of two women who completely amaze and inspire me. These women happen to have some of the wildest fashion I have ever seen or heard of. They are from completely different periods in time, however they both share a penchant for the bizarre. Beginning with...
  • Marchesa Luisa Casati
This woman is a new discovery to me. I stumbled upon her when I saw the exquisite painting done of her by Augustus John hanging at the AGO. She lived from 1881-1957 and continues to inspire designers to this day such as Karl Lagerfeld and the founders of the fashion brand Marchesa, which took her name for their label. The Marchesa fancied the macabre and above all decadence.

Here's a brief list of her wonderful eccentricities:
-Wore live snakes for jewelry
-Buried in fake eyelashes
-Once spattered herself with chicken blood for a party
-Walked her cheetahs on diamond studded leashes
-Walked around in furs, naked underneath

The list really does go on. This woman was not afraid to be completely over the top, and for most of her life she had the money to do so. I really can't do her justice in a blog post, but if anyone is curious about her look her up or check out the book "The Marchesa Casati: Portraits of a Muse"

This is the Augustus John painting of her that originally caught my eye. She was known for having flaming red hair, pale white skin, and large green eyes.

Here we see the Marchesa with one of her many crystal balls, her wild eyes rimmed with kohl.

Here is the Marchesa dressed up for one of her many infamous parties.

Here is Georgina Chapman, one of the women who founded the Marchesa brand, chanelling the style of the woman who inspired her.

Secondly, we have a woman who is a current media craze and has been all over the place for her music and her fashion. None other than...

  • Lady Gaga
She was recently quoted as saying that Lady Gaga isn't a character, it's who she really is. Whether or not you believe this, doesn't really matter. She provides such stimulating eye candy for the public and finally brings something unique to music and to fashion. She isn't quite as refined as the Marchesa, however she does seem to take some bigger fashion risks, here are a few of my favorite...

I love the antlers, honestly I wish I had a pair.

Lobsters always make me think of Salvador Dali's phone, but this one appears to be jewel encrusted. Would you expect anything less?

Experimenting with hair dye is a wonderful thing and we see her do this here in a big way.

A little less flamboyant here, none the less interesting.

These women are who I think of when I get dressed for a night out or even in the mornings. Although, these outfits are more like costumes and in a time of economic depression it is not wise to be frivolous, but even adopting this attitude of fearlessness when it comes to fashion is important for every woman. Confidence is key. I hope that every woman can take a little bit of this wild style into her own closet. Feel inspired, ladies!
