Film Fashionistas

Film Fashionistas

Honorable Mentions...

5. The Lisbon Girls (Lux, Mary, Bonnie, Cecilia, and Therese)
Any Sophia Coppola film character has an impeccable wardrobe (think Marie Antoinette, which was decadently beautiful). These girls are no different, and although they are mainly seen in school uniforms and their prom dresses, "four identical sacks," they always look dreamy.

4. Layla (Buffalo 66)

Ok, so she wears the same outfit the entire time, but it's the cutest little ballerina number! Also she's got the big angelic eyes (with tacky blue eye shadow that only Ricci could make look good), to help endear her to the audience.

3.Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City-the movie)
How can I even try to pick a favorite of her outfits? They're amazing! Pat Field is truly a fashion genius, and while she put Carrie's outfits together, she did the rest of the girls, too. This is one of my personal favorites, I love the high socks and gloves.
2. Holly Golightly (Breakfast at Tiffany's)
This look is classic. Period. How someone ever looked so beautiful and effortlessly cool in a little black dress, high black gloves and dark sunglasses (think Ray Bans) is beyond me. Few girls can pull this look off.

1. The Bride (Bride of Frankenstein)
I know she's only in simple bandages and a white sheet, but the hair?! This is great hair, and that alone put her at number 1.

Now for the Official List! (excited?)

5. Patsy (Class of 1984)
The fact that this film includes a performance by Teenage Head alone solidifies this as a great film. However, my favorite part was seeing Patsy's outrageous outfits. Although these look more like Halloween costumes than clothes (for someone like me who spent my time in high school in the costume bin at Frenchy's looking for rare finds, I appreciate this) the character still looks fabulous in them. She has the greatest over-the-top, punk rock style ever. So she's a little sadistic and cruel, she still looks great in Bowie-esque get ups and a leather jacket. Plus she has rad looking hair with the pink bangs, which I made sure to include a picture of. The gorgeous punk rock goddess.

4. Roslyn (The Misfits)
One of my favorite actresses of all time, and I know all girls say that, but I really mean it! Marilyn Monroe is exceptionally sexy in this movie in beautiful, figure flattering dresses, such as the black one below. However, she also has a great casual outfit in a white blouse, high waisted jeans and freaking adorable pigtails. Roslyn is made all the more beautiful by the fact that she is so emphathetic for all the men in the film (and trust me, they enjoy the attention). As well, her care free nature- I distinctly remember her drunk dancing scene when she first meets Gay- is infectous. You simply can't help but fall in love with her. The classic sex symbol.

3. Margot Tenenbaum (The Royal Tenenbaums)
This is carefree style at it's best. My personal favorite is her fur coat, which has drawn me to fur and left me in search for a great fur coat. Her childlike style is contrasted by her Kohl rimmed eyes. Margot delivers dead-pan lines, never really revealing her true self to her family, much less the viewers. It's not until near the end of the film that we see the record of her past romances, and see the extent of her free-spirit. Also, the fact that she is missing a finger and just wears a wooden cylinder in its place is exceptionally awesome. The cool outcast.

2. Enid - Ghost World
I just can't get enough of Enid's clothing. I love that she doesn't fit into one category of fashion, her style can't be defined as preppy or punk. The clothing she wears in the comic book are pretty great, too, but it's always better seeing something on an actual person. I totally relate to Enid and her inability to relate to those around her, mainly people her age, which is what draws her toward Seymour. One of my favorite lines is actually when Rebecca is at Enid's and she's attempting to sell her clothing, Rebecca remarks about a hat that, "that's from your little old lady phase." I love this because I go through phases like this ALL the time. I'll feel like dressing more feminine and sometimes more casual, but I especially get into phases where I'm obsessed with a look, such as the Greek Goddess phase (that never really took flight) and my old man phase (the long cardigans, comfy beige shoes and glasses...my boyfriend hates this look haha). One of my personal favorites is her original punk 1977 look with the green hair. Actually the scene she's dying her hair, she's listening to The Buzzcock's What do I get?- which is the first time I really heard The Buzzcocks and they are now a long standing favorite band of mine. The hopeless misfit.

1. Clementine Kruczynski (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)
This is my favorite movie and my all time favorite movie character. Her style is so fun and vibrant that it immediately drew me in, plus she is awesome (reminds me a lot of Maude from Harold and Maude, but more modern). Clem is a natural beauty who feels she's flawed so she tries to over compensate and this accounts for her unique look. I think a lot of girls can relate to being young and feeling ugly, out of place or just boring. However, this is really all just in her head because as anyone can tell she is none of those things. The scene with her and Joel under the covers and she asks him if he thinks she's ugly, makes me tear up everytime. She puts up such a tough barrier, but once this is broken down you see that she has her insecurities and is quite sensitive. My personal favorite hair color is the red, I seriously get the urge to dye my blonde locks red everytime I watch this. The wild, natural beauty.

  1. Audrey Hepburn's thing is so awesome she actually straightens out George Peppard's character. In the book he's gay but then it's filmed and he sees her and it's like, "What the hell have I been doing? She's way hotter than that dude I blew in the bus station."
